5 Outdoor Patio Trends to Be Planning for in 2024

As we ease into the new year many homeowners in the Quad Cities area begin thinking about the warmer weather and how to enjoy spring and summer in the Hawkeye State. One of the best ways to celebrate the warmer weather is by being ready to get outdoors and spend time on your outdoor patio.

The outdoor patio isn’t what it once was at all. In 2024, as we’ve seen in previous years, it’s all the living space. No longer is it expected that the patio hold a few chairs and maybe a table to gather for a Sunday barbecue. No sir-today’s outdoor patio is a tru relaxation and entertainment spot for gathering friends and family. Here we take a look at the outdoor patio trends for 2024.

5 Outdoor Patio Trends for 2024

When the temperatures are fairly mild and the snow abates for the season your patio beckons. Make your outdoor patio living space that much more enticing by updating with the latest trends. Here are our favorites.

1. Extend Your Indoor Space

Design experts agree that the biggest trend for 2024 is extending your indoor space seamlessly to the outside. But what exactly does that mean? Essentially it means making your patio feel like a natural extension of your indoor living space. For example, if you have hardwood in your living space use a wood decking as the base of your outdoor patio to complement. Make sure your decking is suitable for an outdoor patio and durable enough to withstand the weather. We suggest a composite decking.

Likewise choose patio furniture that echoes your indoor design. Stone accents inside are easily extended to your outdoor patio and tie both areas together. And don’t forget your doorway. A sweeping patio door helps the two areas merge in seamless style.

2. Outdoor Kitchens and Bar Area

The outdoor kitchen is here to stay. Homeowners throughout the Quad Cities want to enjoy being outside as much as possible whether entertaining or simply relaxing. Luxury patio kitchens are a trend that’s here to stay. But that doesn’t mean you have to equip your patio kitchen area like a Michelin star chef. A built in grill, griddle, pizza oven, wine fridge and the like with a surrounding countertop and sink make it easy to entertain (and impress!) your guests.

3. Comfortable Conversation Areas

When you entertain outdoors it can get pretty busy, especially around your outdoor kitchen. One of the trends we expect to see more of in 2024 is a separate area for guests to relax. Think comfy patio furniture and decor beneath a gorgeous wood pergola and away from the din. Let the kids play and the drillmaster cook while you catch up with a friend over your favorite beverage. Or step outside with your favorite book for some relaxing me time!

4. Additional Smaller Patios and Deck Areas

Consider a small adjacent deck or patio addition to your outdoor space. Perhaps you’d like a private patio off of your bedroom or dining area. These smaller, more intimate outdoor patios and decks are perfect for a cozy dinner for two, a glass of wine or an after dinner coffee as the sun sets. In addition to enhancing your home with a touch of casual elegance the addition of a second patio space adds to your home’s value.

5. Enclosed or Partially Enclosed Outdoor Patio

Either enclosed or partially enclosed outdoor patios are very popular. Extend the usability of your outdoor living space when you upgrade to a multi-season patio. The design options are endless. Glass panels are a popular choice and screened in patios will never go off trend. Install a fireplace intended for enclosed spaces and use your patio no matter the weather. These multi-season rooms offer entertainment space as well as a place to sip your morning coffee.

Partially enclose your outdoor patio for the best of both worlds. Utilize the enclosed are as a dining spot when you want to dine outdoors but you don’t wish to invite those pesky flies or mosquitos.
